A Call To War!

A Call To War!

Key Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-12

Introduction – God is calling the Body of Christ to a time of spiritual warfare. We have to literally man our battle stations and sound the alarm, because the enemy is on attack! We must be prepared to fight! Even though God will do the ultimate fighting, we must be prepared to be vessels for God to use and work through. God wants us built up and ready to go forth and fight the enemy. I know that we as a nation are engaged in a war on terrorism; but, tonight we are going to discuss a much more important war that is being raged all around the world. It is a war between good and evil, and this war has been going on since the day God kicked Satan out of Heaven. Paul lets us know that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against authorities, against powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (territory).

We Must Remind Each Other Who The Real Enemy Is. – The devil’s craftiest trick is to make people believe that he does not exist. Fewer people than ever before actually believe there is a devil. There was a poll once taken, and 60% of Americans believe that the devil or Satan is not an actual being, but simply a “symbol of evil.” The devil may be out of fashion for some, but he’s not out of business. He is real, and he exists. Unfortunately many Christians today act like they have forgotten who Satan is. They mistakenly believe that their brothers and sisters in Christ who disagree with them about certain things are their enemies. But the Word of God tells us differently. Our real enemy is the devil!

Look At What Jesus Said About Satan In John 10:10. – “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Let’s Examine Satan’s Goals A Little Closer.

He Wants To Steal. — Satan wants to make you as miserable as he possibly can. He wants to steal your joy. Unfortunately he can use all kinds of difficulties, problems, and circumstances to accomplish this. He also wants to steal your love. He wants to steal your love for God, for your family, and for your church. Thirdly, he wants to steal your peace. He does this by causing things to happen in your life that will make you fret and worry.

He Wants To Kill. — He wants to kill your passion for sharing your faith. He knows if he succeeds in making you miserable, then the chances of your being very excited about your faith are slim to none. He also wants to kill your desire to be faithful to the Lord. He knows if he can cause you to disobey the Lord and go against what you know to be God’s will, then he will be able to use your disobedience against you. Then, he will do his best to convince you that you are unworthy of God’s love.

He Wants To Destroy. — He wants to destroy your relationships (Especially those with your brothers and sisters in the church). He knows it’s easier to get you, if you don’t have the love and support of other believers. He also wants to destroy your witness and influence. He will usually try to get you to say or do something in public that will condemn you in the eyes of people. Then, he will work on destroying your family. He will use drugs and alcohol to put a stop to your goals of progress for greatness. And of course, Satan wants to destroy the Church. Not just this church, but every church. Sometimes he uses false teachings, false prophets, arguments, and many other things. Whatever trick he can find, Satan will pull it out of his bag, to destroy the church.

-There Are Three Weapons We Must Use To Fight The Devil With.-

Weapon #1 – GOD’S WORD

When we stand on the Word of God, we are in a faith battle with the forces of darkness. The Word will never fail. The Word will expose the devil. Everything that is in the dark will come to the light! The Word will equip us for war. Therefore, we must spend time in God’s Word. We will never get the Word in our spirits and in our hearts, unless we spend time in it! How can the Word affect our lives, if we never pick it up? After reading and studying God’s Word, we must obey it. We cannot be hearers only, but doers of the Word. Knowing and applying God’s Word to our lives should be our plan of action. Actually, it’s our duty to do this.

Weapon #2 – PRAYER

Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons in warfare. After reading and studying God’s Word, we can then talk with the Father, and present the Word back to Him in prayer. Strongholds are torn down in prayer! Bodies are healed through prayer! Minds are regulated through prayer! Circumstances are changed through prayer! The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person availed (benefits) much! When we pray, we need to open the prayer with praise. Praise coupled with prayer is double power! Then, after praise, we need to be sure to include repentance. After that, we need to give adoration and thanksgiving to God. Finally, we must submit to the Holy Spirit, and allow Him to intercede for us during prayer. This will then lead to “praying in the Spirit.”

Weapon # 3 – FELLOWSHIP

Godly fellowship consists of being with believers as often as possible. This type of warfare calls for more time of friendship, encouragement, love, longsuffering, giving to others, working, serving, helping, inviting, and preferring others over ourselves. When we come together as a family (church family), and as a unit, the enemy will have difficulties in the stealing, killing, and destroying. One of us alone can put a thousand demons to flight. Two of us fellowshipping and joining together can put ten thousand demons to flight. Can you imagine how many demons will have to flee when sixty of us begin to fellowship, connect, and bond more often?

Conclusion – A war cry has been made! During a war cry, a declaration has been made that the enemy has attacked, and everyone needs to be armed and ready to fight. In biblical times, horns and instruments were loudly played during a ‘war cry’! The enemy has been trying to bring division in the Body of Christ (the Church) far too long. He has also been trying to bring division in homes, families, and marriages. The devil is on a mission to steal, kill, and destroy. He wants to claim more territory. It’s up to us to ensure the enemy’s plan cannot be completed. The war cry has been made. It’s time to fight the enemy! God is calling us to be all that we can be, and to do all that we can do. We are soldiers in the army of the Lord! We must keep in mind what Isaiah 54:17 says. “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you, in judgment, you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”
